You know you're going to bowl.
You know you're going to drink.
You don't know who will be buying the drinks.
That all depends on how well a Jailer bowls during key moments. A few of these moments are pre-defined (Beer-Frame) and others can pop-up without notice (Hangs).
If the pins fall at the right time, a Jailer will drink all night without making the long, lonely trip to the bar. That Jailer is said to have "skated."
Beyond free drinks, the true display of a Jailer's prowess is when he wins the green. The green is a cash prize given to the Jailer who bowled the best that night.
Winning the green can certainly off-set the pain of buying a round but the perfect Tuesday for a Jailer is winning the green and skating. On those rare occasions a Jailer will leave the bowling alley with more money than he showed up with.
Here's how it all works...
Beer-Frame is the cornerstone drinking-game for The Jailers.
3rd Frame.
Lowest first ball buys a round.
A Jailer can only buy 1 Beer-Frame per night.
Eli's 7-count in frame 3 is the lowest first ball. Eli buys the team a round.
Eli bought Beer Frame in the first game and is now exempt. The lowest eligible ball is Mark's 9-count. Mark buys!
If you said Fred, you'd be right! This beer frame is interesting for a couple reasons...
Eli and Mark already bought beer frame tonight, so they are exempt.
JR throws a Strike, Fred & Tracy both tie with 9. JR is now exempt.
Beer Frame carries over to the next frame. It's Fred vs Tracy.
Fred's 8-count is lower. Fred buys the round! Tracy & JR are skating tonight.
Even if you Skate through all 3 Beer-Frames, you still need to protect yourself from getting hung!
If everyone strikes except you, you buy a round of drinks.
Once you've been hung, you need to be hung two additional times before you owe another round.
Once you've been hung twice, you need to be hung three additional times before you owe another round.
And so on...
Mark got hung. Mark buys a round for the team.
Note: Moving forward, Mark would have to be hung two additional times before owing a round.
No. But...
If Fred or JR had thrown a strike, the other would have been hung. But we all know X boys don't hang X boys...
This is becoming a really interesting scenario. Let's walk through it.
Technically, yes Mark got hung but the situation is complicated by a few things:
1. It's Beer-Frame.
2. Mark already got hung.
3. A Jailer can owe a maximum of 1 round of drinks per frame.
Let's assume Mark is eligible for Beer-Frame. The team must now decide they want to take the Beer-Frame or the hang. It's one or the other, not both.
If the team decides to take the Beer-Frame, Mark buys a round but he will be exempt from Beer-Frame for the rest of the night. The team would also be forfeiting the hang & wouldn't have a leg on Mark.
If instead the team decides to take the hang, Mark will remain eligible for Beer-Frame for the rest of the night. Since Mark was hung earlier, he does not owe a round but the team would get a leg on him (meaning if Mark was to get hung again later, he would owe a round).
Let's assume the team decides to take the hang so that Mark can stay eligible for Beer-Frame for games 2 and 3 while also making progress in hangs by getting a leg on him.
In this scenario we assumed that the team decided to get a leg on Mark by taking the hang instead of Beer-Frame, yes Mark got hung in the 4th frame.
Note: Since this is Mark's second time buying a round due to getting hung, he would now have to be hung three additional times before he owes the team another round.
That would mean Mark would buy the team a round and would be exempt from Beer-Frame for the rest of the night. Mark would not have been hung in Frame 3, so he'd still have a leg to protect him from hangs (although in the 4th frame, Mark gets hung and the team would get a leg on him anyway).
A split-the-pot style game that rewards the best bowler of the night.
$5 Buy-in
The Jailer who knocks down the most pins over his average takes the pot.
